Returning to India in adulthood to run my hands over vintage, worn-through soft kantha blankets and rugs has been one of the ways in which I return, heal, learn. We work with and support Indian sellers of sustainable, upcycled, vintage fabrics and rugs.

Traditionally, old cotton saris, lungis and dhotis, which had turned incredibly soft through wear, were used to make kanthas, with the thread for the stitching drawn out from the fabric itself. Several saris would be layered together. The stitch would cover the entire cloth to provide strength.

A kantha blanket is made up of the history of Indian people and the saris they wear. Like history, the longer you look at them, the more that is revealed.
